Tools, apps, and routines I personally use to support my brain, boost focus, and stay grounded while living with Parkinson’s.
Not medical advice just what’s helping me day by day.

What I Use Regularly and Why

Tools That Support My Cognitive Health

01. Brain Training

I use BrainHQ regularly for structured cognitive training. It’s designed to challenge memory, focus, and processing speed—and I notice a difference when I stay consistent.

02. Voice Therapy
The “Speak With Intent” program from the Parkinson Voice Project helps me strengthen my speech and clarity. It’s free, well-structured, and worth exploring.
03. Audio Therapy
I listen to theta wave audio sessions several nights a week. It may not be scientific to everyone—but it helps calm my mind and sparks creative thinking.
04. Movement & Tracking

Walking 10,000 steps, light strength training, and tracking sleep with a Fitbit keeps me accountable. Motion is medicine—especially when brain fog hits.

Lifestyle Practices That Support Me

10,000 steps a day (or at least 30 mins walk with intent)
Strength training 2–3x/week (adjusted for energy)
Home-made smoothies with fruit, greens, protein
Limiting caffeine after 3 pm
7.5 hours of consistent sleep, same bedtime/wakeup
Water goal: 2L daily minimum
Social contact (even a smile on a walk counts)
Mind games over screen scrolls
Morning check-in

Michael J Fox Foundation

There are many sources of information about Parkinson’s on the internet, and as with everything on the internet, you need to be careful as to the source of that information and make sure it is credible. There are some organizations out there too that are a wealth of information, such as:
  • The Parkinson’s Foundation.
  • Michael J.Fox Foundation (Michael has done so much tremendous work to help educate the World on Parkinson’s, he is truly an inspiration, and even with his symptoms he still appears on TV and also rocked out on stage with Coldplay at the Glastonbury Music Festival in June 2024. He is an example to us all, 63 years old, living with Parkinson’s for many years and still going strong – thanks Michael !).
  • And of course, the previously mentioned Parkinson Voice Project organization.

PRIMAL MOVEMENT

Primal Movement is about getting your body to move the way it was designed to — something most of us have lost with modern habits like sitting too much and staring at screens. It helps retrain posture, flexibility, balance, and coordination.

For people with Parkinson’s, it can be especially helpful. You have to apply real focus and intent to even basic movements — like how your feet land, your stride, and your posture — which shifts control from the damaged automatic part of the brain (extrapyramidal system) to the intentional side (pyramidal system). That’s powerful.

We’ll go deeper in Podcast Episode #8 with Coach Karlee, a local Primal Movement expert full of great insight and energy.
